Sewing Machines - Choosing Your First One
One of the main tools for sewing, of course, the sewing machine. Perhaps you have taken that sewing for beginners course and are enthusiastic enough to want your own sewing machine. Maybe you have upgraded your skills and are prepared to your current machine for a new upgrade. Now you ask yourself, - - as I go about choosing a new machine?
The sewing machine has come a long way from the original pedal machine that not only does not run onElectricity, only forward and straight sewing! Today, embroidery sewing machines, sewing buttonholes automatically adjusted to terminate your chosen button, your seams will tell you what to use stitch length, presser foot and thread type, and in general to do almost everything except cook coffee for you.
The basic sewing machines today are electronic - which means they are not is computerized. It is usually the basic stitches - - straight stitch, zigzag offer buttonhole. You can evenhave a small number of "specialty" stings like wine or embroidered leaf designs. Some other tricks are overcast, seam-processing and imitation serger stitches. They will offer different needle positions - - middle, left and right. Middle of sewing machines are usually computerized and more choice stitch, needle positions, and can even offer a choice of automatic buttonhole (the number of button holes exactly the same size for you and not make you,Having regard to the beginning and end of each buttonhole manually select it). Higher end machines offer a higher speed, more choice stitch, quilting stitch possibilities, alphabets, monograms and even a computer screen that tells you the recommended presser foot, pressure, stitch length and width. The most expensive embroidery sewing machines offer a component that gives you the opportunity to draft cards or even embroidery designs download from the Internet and change their size, shape andConfiguration.
When choosing from the wide range of sewing machines available today, it's much like buying a car. You must do your homework. There are many makes sewing machines on the market - Husqvarna Viking, Singer, Janome, Bernina, Pfaff and Brother. They are our authorized dealers who either stand-alone memory or an arrangement sold at a fabric store. You should choose a dealer in your area, so you can take the machine for maintenance, if you are takinga problem with it. Most dealers will offer classes that the brand of the machine are specific and that teach how to use it effectively. She also sells accessories for the machine. You can read about on-line and in places such as sewing machines or http://www.patternreview.com http://www.quiltropolis.com. Users on these forums is very open about their likes and dislikes of certain brands. The dealer, you should have a sound knowledge of the machine and should be ableher service to his or her shop. Beware of a dealer who sends the machines for maintenance!
After I do your homework and narrowing of your choice, be sure to decide on a budget before the actual visit to a dealer. Do not go for the cheapest machine, especially if you're still pretty new to sewing. I do not recommend buying the most expensive one immediately, it was - so many bells and whistles you will confuse and discourage you! When you visit your dealer, explain your sewingLevel, what you want, sew (pillows, clothing, outdoor items, jeans, leather, cotton, quilting, whatever). Your dealer will then be able to show, you have several machines in your general price range, which are sewn suit your needs. Sit down and test the machine. Bring samples of fabric you expect to sew and stitch a test or two down. Try threading the machine to see) is how easy (or complicated.
Questions to get to what types of presser feet with theAvailable machine, what kind of guarantee, which is employed by their service, and what kind of classes or courses do not offer the dealer for the learning of the machine. Also ask about trade-ins - if you can an old machine, take it in trade, or they may have to offer a trade in program if you want to upgrade to this new machine in a few years.
Finally, you are sure you are comfortable with your dealer. I do not recommend the purchase of a sewing machine from a big box store. Yes, the prices are cheap,You can not operate the machine, they will not teach you how to use it, and certainly can not call if you have trouble threading it!
If you are wise, your sewing machine can be a wonderful tool that will be many hours of relaxation and enjoyment.

| Review by Carolyn Blakeney (Annapolis, MD United States) 2010-03-14 Hard-sided carrying cases for sergers do not seem to be very common (at least they weren't when I was searching for one). Most people likely keep the serger set up all the time and so don't need to store it. I currently don't have a dedicated sewing area, and wanted a hard side instead of a luggage-style soft side case so that it could function as ... Read more Heavy Duty Serger reviews | ||

The instructor had never seen this serger and was very impressed with it! She said it did exactly what her $1000+ serger did at a fraction of the cost. It serges and does rolled hems beautifully.
