What are the different types of sewing machines?

Consumer sewing machines. The most common kind of consumer model is the zig-zag and straight stitch machine. Most modern consumers have sewing machines, at least these two stitches, plus some more.

Sergers () aka overlockers merrow or machines. If you are wearing clothes bought from a store, you need only look in your clothes to see what looks for a serged stitchlike. These machines are in use that 3, 4, or 5-strings, like the standard-2, however complicated. The wonderful thing about these machines, cut them, as they sew, so you get a perfectly clean, finished seams. They are also the engine of choice for sewing knits (the seam line).
